WvW Participation Tiers Explained
What is participation?
Participation is your personal contribution score in WvW, displayed under the WvW objectives panel. It rises when you do something useful — capping objectives, killing enemies, escorting dolyaks — and decays when you go idle.
Participation runs from Tier 1 to Tier 6. The higher your tier, the faster you progress reward tracks and the more pips you earn per skirmish tick.

Pip values depend on additional bonuses (Outnumbered, Commitment, Loyalty, Rank tier). T3 is the minimum threshold for earning pips at all.
What raises participation?
- Capturing an objective (camp, tower, keep, castle) — biggest single boost
- Defending a contested objective when an event completes successfully
- Killing enemy players in WvW
- Escorting allied dolyaks to their destination (event credit)
- Killing enemy dolyaks
- Stomping downed enemies in WvW
- Repairing walls and gates during a contest
The decay timer
If you do not perform a participation-granting action for several minutes, your participation begins to decay. Each tier holds for ~10 minutes before falling to the next. Going AFK or idling at spawn for 15+ minutes will drop you out of pip-earning range.
If you are AFK-tagging for rewards, you still need to do something every ~10 minutes — a single dolyak kill or a single capture-event tick is enough to refresh the timer.
Tips to hit T6 fast
- Follow a commander — every objective they cap snaps you up a tier almost instantly.
- Cap a camp solo if you are off-tag — full camp captures give large participation jumps.
- Defend, don't sit — if you are scouting, actively engage the enemy or repair walls.
- Escort dolyaks on quiet maps — easy participation when nothing else is happening.
- Stay on a busy map — Eternal Battlegrounds at prime time is the easiest place to maintain T6.
