How to Get the Gift of Battle in GW2
The only way
The Gift of Battle is the final reward (slot 40 of 40) of the Gift of Battle Reward Track — a dedicated WvW reward track. It is the only way to obtain a Gift of Battle. The old method of buying it for 500 Badges of Honor was removed in Spring 2016 and never came back.
You need one Gift of Battle per legendary weapon. It is a component in the Gift of Mastery, Gift of War Prosperity, Gift of Conquering and Gift of the Mists — covering essentially every Gen 1 and Gen 2 legendary.
Step-by-step
- Enter any WvW map (press B, pick a map, click Enter).
- Open your Hero panel → Reward Tracks tab.
- Select the Gift of Battle Reward Track and set it as Active.
- Earn WvW participation points by capturing objectives, escorting/killing dolyaks, scouting, killing players, or defending. Every action progresses the track.
- The Gift of Battle is awarded automatically when you complete the 40th and final tier.
How long does it take?
A Gift of Battle reward track is 20,000 points long, with the maximum awarding 8 hours 35 minutes at full Tier-6 participation. Most players will see ~10–12 hours of realistic active play including downtime between objectives.
To minimise the time:
- Maintain Tier 6 participation — capping objectives, defending, and dolyak interactions all bump you up. See Participation Tiers.
- Use a WvW Reward Track Booster from the Laurel Merchant or Gem Store (+50%).
- Combine with guild Reward Track Booster if your guild has it active.
- Apply a Birthday Booster for an additional XP / track gain stack.
- Stack with celebration boosters during double-rewards weekends.
Completing your three Daily WvW achievements grants a chunk of reward-track progress per day. If you only need one Gift, daily completion alone will get you there in roughly 1.5–2 weeks of casual play.
What if I can't play WvW?
The Gift of Battle cannot be bought from another player or the Trading Post — it is account-bound on acquisition. There is no PvE workaround. If you genuinely cannot play WvW, the only alternative is to buy a finished legendary weapon directly on the Trading Post.
The good news: you only need to play during the reward track — you do not need to fight, win or "be good". Following a commander tag and pressing 1 contributes plenty of progress.
Pip rewards along the way
While completing the Gift of Battle track, you also earn from the Skirmish Reward Track simultaneously — including up to 365 Skirmish Tickets per week, which fund ascended gear and other legendary components.
