WvW Rewards & Progression
1. WvW Currencies
WvW uses several dedicated currencies used for purchasing gear, upgrades, and crafting legendary items. All are acquired through WvW participation.
| Currency | How to Earn | Primary Use |
|---|---|---|
| Skirmish Tickets 🎫 | Skirmish Reward Track (chests) | WvW gear, legendary precursors, ascended components |
| Badges of Honor 🏅 | Killing players, completing objectives, chests | WvW gear, siege blueprints, upgrades |
| WvW Claim Tickets | WvW achievements, rank chests | Guild claiming, guild upgrades |
| Proofs of Heroics | WvW dailies, rank-up chests | Mystic Clovers, Hero Point exchange |
| Memory of Battle | WvW reward tracks (non-Skirmish) | Legendary armour crafting |
| Grandmaster Marks | WvW Skirmish vendor | Legendary armour crafting |
2. Skirmish Reward Track
The Skirmish Reward Track is the central WvW progression system. It fills with WvW XP earned during each 2-hour skirmish window. As the bar fills, you unlock a series of chests containing currencies, gear, and materials. See the dedicated Skirmish Tickets & pip cap page for the full pip chart.
The Skirmish Track has eight pip tiers (Wood, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Mithril, Diamond, then a repeatable Diamond tier). Higher tiers grant more pips and better chests. The weekly cap is 1,450 pips, awarding up to 365 WvW Skirmish Claim Tickets per week. (Source: GW2 Wiki — Skirmish Reward Track.)
Using a WvW XP Booster (from the Laurel merchant or Gem Store) significantly increases how fast you fill your Skirmish Track. If you are planning an active WvW session, pop a booster first — it makes a meaningful difference especially for reaching Diamond tier consistently.
3. Skirmish Tickets
Skirmish Tickets are dropped in the Gold–Diamond tier Skirmish chests. They are the primary currency for purchasing WvW-exclusive gear from the Skirmish Supervisor NPC (found in every WvW map's spawn area and Obsidian Sanctum).
| Item | Skirmish Ticket Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ascended WvW Weapon | ~60–90 tickets | Stat-selectable; equivalent to dungeon ascended |
| Ascended WvW Armour (piece) | ~35–75 tickets | Head/hands cheaper; chest most expensive |
| Gift of Battle | 250 tickets + mats | Required for most legendary weapons |
| Legendary Armour Insight | Variable | Part of the legendary armour acquisition path |
4. Gift of Battle
The Gift of Battle is arguably the most important WvW reward for the wider GW2 player base. It is a mandatory component in crafting the vast majority of Legendary weapons, including Bolt, The Bifrost, Twilight, The Predator, and dozens more.
This means that every player who wants a legendary weapon must play WvW — or purchase the Gift on the Trading Post. Either way, WvW is deeply embedded in the legendary crafting pipeline.
Complete the Gift of Battle Reward Track — a dedicated WvW reward track available via the WvW panel. It takes approximately 8–12 hours of active WvW play per Gift (faster with boosters and guild boosts). One Gift is needed per legendary weapon.
5. WvW Rank & Abilities
Every WvW action (capturing objectives, killing players, escorting dolyaks, etc.) earns WvW Experience (XP), which increases your personal WvW Rank. Higher ranks allow you to unlock WvW Abilities — permanent passive buffs that make you more effective in WvW.
| Ability Line | What it Improves | Max Rank Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Supply Capacity | How much supply you can carry | 15 supply (up from 10) |
| Guard Killer | Damage vs NPC guards | +30% damage vs guards |
| Siege Might | Siege weapon damage | +30% siege damage |
| Repair Master | Speed and efficiency of wall/gate repairs | Repairs cost 50% less supply |
| Dolyak Rider | Dolyak speed and escorting | Dolyaks move faster under escort |
| Battle Cry | Rally nearby allies | Revive nearby players faster |
| Demolisher | Damage to gates and walls | Increased structure damage |
| Mercenary | Earn mercenary camp bonuses | Unlocks mercenary camp benefits |
Prioritise Supply Capacity first (critical for everyone), then Guard Killer (speeds up every objective capture), then Siege Might if you run siege frequently. Repair Master becomes very valuable once you are regularly defending keeps.
6. Legendary WvW Rewards
WvW offers exclusive legendary gear unavailable from any other game mode.
Legendary WvW Armour
The WvW Legendary Armour set is one of two legendary armour sets in the game (the other being Raid armour). It provides the same stat customisation as all legendary gear — you can change stats freely at any time outside of combat.
Crafting requires:
- Memory of Battle (farmed from WvW tracks)
- Grandmaster Marks (purchased with Skirmish Tickets)
- Mystic Clovers (crafted in Mystic Forge)
- Elegy Mosaics and other account-bound WvW materials
Crafting a full set of 6 armour pieces takes many months of dedicated WvW play — but the result is the most flexible gear in the game.
Conflux Ring
Conflux is the WvW-exclusive legendary ring. Like all legendary accessories, it allows free stat swapping and has a unique infusion animation. Obtaining it requires a combination of Skirmish Tickets, WvW materials, and a long reward track completion.
Legendary WvW Backpiece — Ad Infinitum Prerequisite Path
While not exclusively a WvW reward, the WvW legendary backpiece path involves significant WvW participation. It rewards a unique glowing backpiece cosmetic.
7. Reward Chests
WvW contains numerous chest-based rewards throughout the experience:
- Skirmish Chests — Bronze through Diamond, earned during each skirmish window
- Rank-up Chests — opened every 5 WvW Ranks; contain Proofs of Heroics and gear
- Objective Capture Chests — dropped when you participate in capturing an objective
- Player Kill Bags — looted from enemy players you defeat; contain crafting materials and occasionally recipes
- Daily Achievement Chests — completing WvW dailies opens a chest with currencies and materials
8. Achievement Lines
WvW has a rich achievement system under the Achievements → World vs World tab. Major lines include:
- WvW Veteran — kill and capture milestones, thousands of kills required
- Conqueror of the Mists — capture specific objectives across all maps
- Defender of the Mists — defend objectives against enemy attacks
- Supply Master — escort dolyaks, build siege, repair structures
- Commander achievements — lead squads, have players follow your tag
- Skirmish Champion — reach Diamond tier repeatedly
Many achievements award Achievement Points, titles, and unique cosmetic rewards. Titles like The Indomitable or World Conqueror are visible WvW prestige markers.
9. Daily WvW Achievements
Each day offers a rotating set of WvW dailies. Completing 3 dailies earns a bonus reward chest. Daily categories include:
- Daily Captor (capture X objectives)
- Daily Defender (defend X objectives)
- Daily Slayer (kill X enemy players)
- Daily WvW Rank (earn rank points)
- Daily Desert/Alpine/EBG specific objectives
- Daily Dolyak Escorts
Completing WvW dailies every day adds up to a significant amount of Proofs of Heroics and bonus currencies per month. Even a 20-minute daily WvW session keeps your progression moving while you wait for prime time.
10. Maximising Your Rewards
- Use WvW XP boosters during active sessions to hit Diamond tier reliably.
- Complete 3 WvW Dailies every day.
- Run the Gift of Battle reward track if you are working on a legendary weapon — it is the most efficient use of your participation.
- Pick up supply and repair gates during defences — both earn WvW XP and participation credit.
- Join a guild with WvW-specific Guild Buffs active (WvW XP boosts and supply bonuses).
- Unlock Supply Capacity as your first WvW Ability — the extra 5 supply you carry makes every other activity more efficient.
