WvW Tactics — Traps & Tricks
Overview
WvW Tactics are consumable items you carry in your inventory and deploy on the battlefield. They cost supply but no blueprint, and most are account bound — picked up from WvW chests, vendors, or daily rewards. They're how a small group can punch above its weight: a single Siege Disruptor can shut down a 5-golem rush, a single Target Painter exposes a stealthed thief gank.
Tactics fall into two categories:
Traps
Traps are placed on the ground and trigger when enemies walk into them. They're invisible to enemies until activated. The placement is permanent until triggered or until a specific player limit reaches the area.
Tricks
Tricks are thrown at a target location (deployment range 1,200) and apply their effect immediately. They aren't placed on the ground — they're an instant deployable.

How to get tactics
- Skirmish chests — Bronze tier and above sometimes contain trap stacks.
- WvW vendors — sold for Badges of Honor at the Skirmish Supervisor.
- Daily WvW achievements — completion bags occasionally include tactic stacks.
- WvW reward tracks — some tracks award tactic bags as track milestones.
- Guild Tactics & Tricks workshop — guilds with the right upgrades can craft these for members.
General usage tips
- Pre-place traps before fights start. Traps are invisible to enemies — placing them ahead of an expected push is high-value.
- Common trap spots: just inside the breached gate, at the Lord room entrance, on the dolyak path, at known stealth-thief gank corners.
- Don't waste tricks on small skirmishes. 10 supply on a 3-player havoc fight is poor return. Save Disruptors and Painters for major commitments.
- Coordinate on voice. "Painter dropped on red" tells the squad to focus the marked enemies. Solo painters with no callout are wasted.
- Combine with siege. Painter + Arrow Carts on a stacked target = quick kill. Disruptor + counter-push = enemy siege wiped before it shoots.
