WvW objective NPC protected by Righteous Indignation — invulnerable post-capture phase
An objective NPC under Righteous Indignation — invulnerable and dealing bonus damage.

What it does

Righteous Indignation is a buff applied to all objective NPCs (Castle Lord, Keep Lord, Tower Lord, supply guards, etc., except Sentries) for 5 minutes after the objective is captured. While the buff is active, those NPCs:

  • Cannot be killed — they are fully invulnerable to damage
  • Deal increased damage to enemies inside the objective

This means a freshly captured Castle, Keep or Tower cannot be re-captured for 5 minutes — the new owners get a guaranteed grace period to repair walls, set up siege, and bring in reinforcements.

Why it exists

Without Righteous Indignation, two enemy zergs could trade flips on the same objective every 30 seconds. RI gives the capturing team time to actually establish control: refresh supplies, lay down auto-upgrades, set up defensive siege, and rebuild gates damaged in the assault.

It also prevents the worst form of "spawn camping" — sitting at a captured tower's lord room, pulling lord aggro, and starving the new owners. With RI, the lord cannot be aggro-pulled or killed during the protection window.

How to play around it

If you are the attacker

  • If the enemy just took an objective, do not assault for 5 minutes. Even a 50-man zerg cannot kill the lord during RI.
  • Use the time to kill nearby dolyaks to starve future upgrades.
  • Pre-position siege, supply, and a flanking team for the moment RI drops.
  • Watch the buff icon over the lord — when it disappears, push immediately.

If you are the defender

  • The 5 minutes is your only guaranteed safe window — use it ruthlessly. Repair every wall and gate.
  • Drop arrow carts, oil and shield generators on key approaches before RI drops.
  • Dolyak deliveries during RI are exceptionally valuable — escort them in to fund the next tier.
⚠️
Don't waste supply during RI

Building siege against an RI-protected objective is wasted supply. Wait until the buff icon is about to drop, then ram together.

Edge cases

  • Sentries do not receive RI — they can be flipped immediately after capture.
  • Camp guards receive RI for the 5-minute window, but a camp's capture event can still be re-triggered after RI ends as soon as the new guards spawn.
  • Walls and gates do not receive RI — they can be damaged and broken during RI, but the lord still cannot be killed inside.
